Ellemarmi meets Waterjet Corporation at Marmomac 2017
“The past few years have seen a steady growth trend and there is the prospect of a further increase in job orders and new opportunities in developing countries. We have planned to purchase innovative machinery to process marble: in addition to the usual equipment, we will have high precision machinery, such as CNC waterjet to process ornaments and inlays,” says Andrea Luciani, owner of Elle Marmi, in an interview. This prospect became reality, as illustrated by Daniele Portoso, Sales Director (Italy) at Waterjet Corporation. “We met the client at Marmomac 2017: I personally oversaw the entire sales process, right up to installation on 18 May, of our Classic CL 612 Waterjet machine with a combined system for decorative hydro-finishing and jet water cutting.”
Elle Marmi was founded in 1946, when Alessandro Luciani opened an artisan workshop for processing marble, stone and granite.
Today, Elle Marmi is an international leader in the stone industry able to cover the entire production chain: from the extraction of the block in the quarry to the finished product. Indeed, thanks to the structure of the company, it is able to supply all types of material and follow all processing stages, providing technical assistance from the design, the executive drawings, the shipment of the material to anywhere in the world and the laying by means of specialised teams of supervisors and installers.
The Classic CL 612 Waterjet has a worktop of 4000×2000 mm and can simultaneously perform CNC water cutting with 5 axes ±55° and superficial hydro-finishing of the slab: indeed, the facility is equipped with a system that combines the head for jet water cutting and for superficial hydro-finishing. The machine is connected to the company’s network to transmit and store information in real time: it is, indeed, among the capital goods set forth by the Industry Plan 4.0 to amortise 250% of the asset. Also in terms of Industry 4.0 automation, the machine has been equipped with a digital camera with software that automatically uploads images or shapes to be used in the CAD system, so as to easily customise and create cutting programs.
Being able to have the two processes on the same machine – therefore, using the same components, the same body, the same numerical control and the same software – optimises the investment, the space and of course, the production cycle, drastically reducing time and costs.
Hydro-finishing technology involves a rotating head fitted with multiple orifices that launch the water jet at high pressure without using any abrasive: it is intended for homogeneous or geometric treatments that protect both the chromatic and structural properties of the material, thus preserving its creative artistic potential. Waterjet technology, both for cutting and finishing, considerably reduces the environmental impact, thereby becoming one of the most eco-sustainable industrial processes.
