Waterjet Corporation has recently perfected the sale of a water cutting machine to Rock Island Arsenal – Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center – following a tender called by the US Army supplier.
Rock Island Arsenal is a technological interlocutor of the highest level: this production centre at the service of the US army is able to create a product starting from the raw material to the final product that can be an object as small as a spring or as large as an ambulance.

Engineer Massimo Russo, Vice President of Waterjet Corporation points out: “Following such a project was a great challenge from a technological, bureaucratic and organisational point of view.
But among the companies involved in the tender launched by Rock Island Arsenal, in the end only two companies remained, and we managed to win it over our competitors by adhering precisely and certifying all the characteristics required by the detailed and complex specifications contained in the tender, offering the customer a more innovative and high-performance water cutting system”.

The machine sold is a Supreme model, customised to meet the very stringent and detailed specification on which the companies involved in the tender had to confront each other. The tender required a highly complex and performing machine, and Waterjet
Corporation was selected for its ability to provide a tailormade solution that reflected the specific needs of Rock Island Arsenal without losing sight of the economic aspect.
The ability to customise its technological offer derives from the process of industrialisation of all those that are the subgroups, components, kinematics, mechanical part that Waterjet has carried out in its 32 years of experience: this baggage allows the company to build very customised machines while remaining competitive.
With a size of 4 x 9 m, the machine is able to work on two independent bridges with 5-axis heads and handles metal materials with thicknesses up to 200 mm: The machine is equipped with a probe and anti-collision accessories: it offers unprecedented cutting performance and precision, also thanks to the intensification of the jet by the two high-pressure, high-flow hybrid pumps from 4.7 lt/min Servo Plus to 4,150 bar. The double bridge is controlled by a CNC with double interface channel:
So each bridge is free to work independently of the other, so that two completely different types of processing can be carried out at the same time.
An aspect that has made this sale even more complex is that linked to double certification.

UL of the electrical and electronic part, which has also seen certification by the American certification body, with all the bureaucratic and organisational complications that derive from it.
