I vantaggi del taglio ad acqua nella lavorazione del vetro automotive

The aim is to improve our competitiveness, the choice must fall on the most avant-garde technology available on the market.

ING. MASSIMO RUSSO

Waterjet cutting technology provides a tangible benefit compared to other cutting or drilling technologies in the world of glass processing: the cutting precision is extremely high but above all, a very important aspect of stratified automotive glass, is that it requires a through cut that does not damage the glass or change the chemical and physical features to safeguard the subsequent hardening stages.

Dora Automotive Glass Industry and Trade Inc. has been producing laminated and hardened glass since 1983 for the automotive sector: the company has a high production capacity through the use of latest-generation systems and technology, laid out over an area of 21,000 m2 in Ankara.

To enhance this already impressive array of equipment, Dora Glass purchased two Classica model machines from Waterjet Corporation, one with a smaller work surface, a CL 44 1200 x1200 mm, while the other was a CL 510 with a dual cutting head that guarantees higher productivity. Both models purchased by Dora Glass are driven by Servo hybrid pumps manufactured by Waterjet: the pressure intensification through this technology guarantees excellent performance in terms of cutting and drilling because it allows the water jet pressure to be precisely adjusted to avoid breaking the glass sheet.

Together with the adjustment of the water jet pressure, compared to traditional technology, waterjet cutting gives the operator a 1-mm tool for complete customisation of the glass, for example, with notches or holes, guaranteeing high precision, quality and without running the risk of compromising the integrity of the glass sheet that will then be hardened.

Moreover, waterjet cutting does not require any bevelling afterwards as in the case of traditional technology because the water jet rounds the edge so that it is not sharp.
The pressure intensification systems designed and developed by Waterjet Corporation guarantee the best cutting performance and maximum energy efficiency allowing you to significantly cut down on consumption and, therefore, costs compared to traditional hydraulic pumps. In an application sector like the glass industry where the cutting and drilling often have short cycles, this is a big advantage in terms of optimising production because energy is only consumed in the processing stage eliminating costs, on the other hand, during the changeover from one sheet to another.

“When a company like Dora Glass makes an investment in technology, it looks at a period of 10-15 years, so obviously, if the goal is to improve our competitiveness, the choice must fall on the most avant-garde technology available on the market. The choice is not conditioned by price but by the technological content: in these terms, the Servo hybrid pumps which guarantee quality, reduced production cost and excellent efficiency are exactly what is called for.
This aspect, along with the many prestigious references that we can cite in Türkiye, led to a major company like Dora Glass choosing us”
, commented Massimo Russo, Vice president of Waterjet Corporation.
